Lake Forest Obituary: Joseph Burns, 82

Joseph E. Burns, 82, a twenty-five year resident of Lake Forest, IL died peacefully April 23, 2014. He endured life after a stroke with grace, patience, dignity and love.

Joseph was born in Washington, D.C. where he developed his lifelong passion for horses, was a graduate of Georgetown University and later founded Ameriforms Corporation. He married & moved to Deerfield, IL where his daughter Toni was born.

After retirement he volunteered for the past several years taking food to the poor. He moved to Lake Forest 25 years ago where he married Gail and lived happily ever after.

Joseph is survived by his wife Gail Smith Burns; his daughter Toni Burns Colhoff; his grandchildren Kristy Colhoff Schaut, Denny Colhoff, Julie Colhoff & Jackie Colhoff; and his great granddaughter Lylah Colhoff; he also leaves behind his brother Walter Burns and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents John & Helen Burns and his brothers Francis & Jack Burns.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Chicago Botanic Garden, Tribute Gifts Coordinator, 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe, IL 60022.

Memorial visitation 9:30 a.m. until time of mass at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 28 at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest, IL. Interment private.
