Growing up in Chicago, Mary attended The Latin School and often told fond stories of her younger years living in the city. She went on to Westover Boarding School and graduated from Vassar College with a Bachelor of Arts.

Mary worked for Time magazine before marrying David in 1960.  She was a devoted homemaker, volunteer, animal lover and an active member of the community.  Always the crossword enthusiast, Mary never missed the New York Times Sunday puzzle.

She served on many boards including Woman’s Board of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, Allendale Shelter Club, Lake Forest Garden Club and The Winter Club of Lake Forest.

Mary (Bopie to her 8 grandchildren – Chase, Jack, Riley, Holden, Steddy, Berkley, Max and TC) loved being with family and was fortunate to have traveled the world with David.  Her last years were filled with joy as she dominated the activities at Lake Forest Place.

She had an infectious laugh, tough spirit and is missed by all that she touched.

In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in the memory of Mary Amory to the Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, Posy Krehbiel Breast Care Center, 660 North Westmoreland Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045.  Mrs. Amory had strong ties to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital and for many years was a loyal volunteer at the hospital’s retail shop, The Trading Post.
