Obituary: David F. O'Neill, 73, Lake Forest Businessman

O'Neill owned David O'Neill Florist and David O'Neill Antiques in Lake Forest and was an associate of Roger's Nursery & Landscaping. One of his room designs was featured in 'Architectural Digest' magazine.

David F. O’Neill, 73 a lifelong resident of Lake Forest, died January 20, 2013 at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital Skilled Care.

David was born April 24, 1939 at Alice Home Hospital in Lake Forest. He was a graduate of Lake Forest High School (Class of 1957) and was associated with the family business, O’Neill Hardware in Lake Forest. He was the owner of David O’Neill Florist and David O’Neill Antiques in Lake Forest and was an associate of Roger’s Nursery & Landscaping.

David’s family was recognized as one of Lake Forest’s Centennial Families and had one of his room designs, for the Lake Forest Showcase House, featured in Architectural Design magazine.

David was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, Lake Forest – Lake Bluff Chamber of Commerce, Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Historical Society and the Lake Forest Preservation Association.

Son of the late Joseph O’Neill, Sr. and the late Hazel Swanton O’Neill. Brother of Susan Jane O’Neill and the late Joseph O’Neill, Jr. Uncle of Jean Stevenson, Catriona (George) Elfering, Fiona (Joe) Waltz, Joseph (Kathleen) O’Neill and Caitlin (David Parrish) O’Neill. Cousin of Helen Jahnke, Pony (Gridley) Swanton, Judith Swanton (Glen) Turpoff, Robert (Brenda) O’Neill and Gerald (Pam) O’Neill. He is also survived by his friends, Becky Kluchka and family and by all his very special & caring friends that filled his life with joy.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 24th at the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest. A private, family interment service will be held in Lake Forest Cemetery.
