Obituary: Robert J. Pommer, Lake Forest Resident Since 1971

Pommer served as a Marine during the Vietnam War.

Robert J. Pommer, Sr., age 77, passed away from heart failure peacefully with his family by his side at home on September 27, 2012. Bob was a resident of Lake Forest since 1971. He was born September 8, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri. Bob was the son of the late William J. Pommer & Hattie Pommer (nee Buschor). He was preceded in death by his brother William Jr.  Bob was the loving husband of Lisa Pommer for 52 years. Beloved father of Lisa (Scott) Whalley, Robert (Elizabeth) Pommer, Jr. and Christopher Pommer. Adoring Grandfather of Lauren, Megan and Kate Whalley and Michael and Bailey Pommer.  

Bob graduated in 1959 from Washington University in St. Louis. He started his career with Ecolab Inc. (ECL) as an account representative in St. Louis. He rose through the sales ranks achieving the title of Senior Vice President International Division in 1971. Bob retired from EcoLab in 1981. Starting in 1982, Bob and his wife owned and operated several successful area restaurants including Christopher’s in Lake Forest.  

Bob was a Marine during the Vietnam War stationed at Camp Pendleton. Bob was an active member of the McKinlock American Legion Post 264 in Lake Forest where he served in a variety of positions, including Post Commander in 2004. For the past six years, Bob served as Post Chaplain.  Bob cherished spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed golf, tennis, a good cigar and a great poker game.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 1, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 E. Vine Avenue, Lake Forest.  Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, October 2 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary,  175 East Illinois Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045. Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made in the name of Robert Pommer to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.  Info- Wenban Funeral Home, (847) 234-0022 or www.wenbanfh.com
