Obituary: William Holden Davidson Developed Successful Printing Company

Davidson, 76, of Lake Forest, passed away last week surrounded by family and friends following a lengthy illness.

William Holden Davidson, 76, of Lake Forest, IL passed away June 18, 2013 surrounded by family and friends following a lengthy illness.  

William was born on the North Side of Chicago on July 1, 1936 to Holden and Sabina nee Murphy Davidson.  He graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1955.  After high school he joined the Navy in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1960.

While in the Navy, he served on the U.S.S. Malloy also known as the “Galloping Ghost of the New England Coast,” a sub chaser based in Connecticut. Following his discharge from the Navy, he married Margaret Bopp on October 8, 1960.  They spent a wonderful 52 years together, always at each other’s side. 

Bill and Margie enjoyed traveling together to California and Las Vegas and spending time playing cards with friends.  William opened his business, W. H. Davidson and Co. in Chicago and through hard work and dedication developed a successful, well-respected printing company.

He thoroughly enjoyed the printing industry and his passion was demonstrated by the quality of his work.  William was a loving and giving Uncle to many nieces and nephews.  He supported them in so many ways and especially enjoyed their sporting events.  

William is survived by his wife Margaret nee Bopp, sister-in-laws Barbara, Sister Irene and Rosemary Bopp, nieces Kathy (Chris) Glomski, Karen (David) Spreitzer, Mary Fran (Jeff) Graunke, nephews Joseph (Mimi) and Timothy Bopp.  He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert, his brother in-laws Jake, George, Joseph, Robert, Frank and John Bopp and sister in-laws Sister Gemma Bopp and Helen (Jacob) Applehanse. 

Visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 24 at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 Vine Ave., Lake Forest followed by the Funeral Mass 12 noon at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Lake Forest. Info- 847-234-0022 or www.wenbanfh.com.
