Service Set for Broadway Producer from Lake Forest

Butch Hubbard, who was raised in Lake Forest, won a Tony Award in 1992.

Hugh Johnston Hubbard, known affectionately as Butch by his family and friends, passed away Nov. 15. Butch, 70, son of the late Otis L. Hubbard and Ethel J. Hubbard, was born near the family home in Camden, Maine and raised in Lake Forest. Like his father and older brother, Otis L. Hubbard, Jr., he attended the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn., and then graduated from Yale University.

Butch thrived in New York City in the 1970s and 1980s turning his attention to the bright lights of Broadway. He acted as co-producer of several musical productions, culminating with a 1992 Tony Award for the revival of "Guys And Dolls."

He was an inveterate reader and passionate traveler, but more than anything, Butch loved to be surrounded by family and friends and typically was the instigator and center of conversation. He was the consummate storyteller and captivated his nieces and nephews with tales of the good times in the city that never sleeps. Butch’s engaging humor, robust laughter and perpetual smile will be missed by his many admirers.
