Talbot deButts Cain, Longtime Lake Forest Garden Club Member, Dies

A service and reception for Talbot deButts Cain, 71, will be held at 4:40 p.m. Thursday at the Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest.

Talbot deButts Cain, 71, of Lake Forest, passed away July 20 at NorthWestern Lake Forest Hospital.

Born in Norfolk, Va., Talbot spent most of her life in Chicago and Lake Forest. She graduated from Mary Washington College and attended The Holton Arms School.

She was the devoted wife to Tyler R. Cain. They were married on Sept. 11, 1965. She and Tyler split their time between Lake Forest and Jupiter Island, Fl., where they were residents.

She was the loving mother of 2 daughters Dulany Cain Anning (wife of Rob) and Mary Preston Cain. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, both daughters and 5 wonderful grandchildren, Tyler, Amelia, Welby, Talbot and Henry.

She was affectionately known as “Bunny” to her grandchildren and other young admirers that loved her. Talbot was the daughter of John Dulany and Gertrude Walke deButts. John was the chairman of Illinois Bell and AT&T.

Talbot will be remembered for her vibrant, caring, generous, selfless and compassionate nature and her dedication to her family. She was incredibly creative, an avid bridge player, loved to travel and spend as much time with her family as she could. She touched the lives of everyone that knew her.

Talbot served on the board of Lurie Children’s Memorial Hospital for 41 years and was a board member of the Lake Forest Garden Club for 29 years.

A funeral service and reception will be held at the Onwenstsia Club in Lake Forest at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 25.
