LF Zoning Board to Consider Student Housing, Conference Venue on Walden

Increased congestion, noise, college student housing and busing in the area of Mayflower, Ringwood and Walden occupy the Zoning Board of Appeals Monday, September 23rd at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Forest City Hall.

Five days before Christmas last year, Robert and Anne Krebs filed a petition for a “Special Use Permit” to establish the “Krebs Center for Medieval & Renaissance Scholarship” at their residence, 1045 Walden, Lake Forest.  The petition states their home would be used by Lake Forest College for classes, student housing, receptions, conferences and visiting scholar housing.  The petition also states shuttle busing and parking on Ringwood Road are likely possibilities.

Residents on Mayflower, Walden, Ringwood, many of whom are known to winter in southern climates, obtained a postponement of a previously set winter hearing on the petition.  These residents, and those in the Havenwood subdivision who will be most affected by the noise, increased traffic, evening floodlights and other detriments to the neighborhood if the residence is brought into lawful compliance as a commercial building, have circulated petitions to stop one man’s quest to turn his home into a college campus annex.

All residents who are concerned with this drastic proposal to change the character and use of this property, as well as citizens alarmed at the precedent this will set in other neighborhoods are urged to attend the Zoning Board hearing Monday, September 23, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 220 East Deerpath.
