My one piece of nutritional advice

Are you confused about which nutritional advice to follow. Let's get back to basics.

Cut out all gluten.  No, dairy.  Wait, no, sugar.  But then there’s carbs. 
OH, and FAT!  Now I changed my mind.  Don’t eat after 7 pm.  Or, maybe drink
only water.  Avoid caffeine.  Alcohol.  Genetically modified foods.  Fast food. 
No, nevermind.  Eat only raw foods.  No, only organic.  Hmmm…or, juice
everything.  But make sure it’s organic.  And local.  And not genetically
modified.

It’s no wonder we can’t keep it all straight!  I can barely keep it all
straight and I’m supposed to be the expert here!  So, for real, in honor of
National Nutrition Month my (serious) ONE piece of advice is this:

Choose ONE way to improve your nutrition.

 

That’s it.  For now, at least.

 

There is always some new research out showing the latest and best (no,
really, this time it’s the best) way to improve our nutrition.  Unfortunately,
it is difficult to know what information to trust and how to even make that
change.  All-too-often we are too overwhelmed to even think intentionally about
changing.  It’s easier to just read about change rather than do it.  How many of
you clicked on this post because, once again, you were hoping to find that
quick-fix, easy-fix, fix-it-all at once answer?  Maybe that’s you.  Or, maybe
you honestly are just so discouraged that you don’t know where to begin.

 

I’m telling you where to begin- with ONE goal.

 

My answer won’t fix it all, but depending on what you choose, it could
potentially be quick and it could also be easy.  But, that’s up to you.  And,
that’s kinda my point here.  By choosing just ONE way to better yourself
nutritionally, you help reduce any anxiety about “having to fix it all.”  Your
nutrition is not hopeless and it doesn’t have to be so hard that you can’t do
it.  You can do it.  One change at a time.

 

Still having a hard time choosing where to begin?

 

Some common first goals could be:

 


  • consume a fruit or veggie every time you eat
  • eat breakfast
  • only drink water
  • replace 1 dinner out meal with a dinner in meal
  • change from white bread/pasta to whole wheat bread/pasta
  • eat vegetarian 1 dinner a week
  • buy all natural peanut butter
  • try 1 recipe a week that includes beans
  •  

    Just a few ideas for you!

     

    Start with something that is a true goal of yours but that you find
    realistic and doable for your lifestyle.  One thing. 
    Then, DO IT!  Once it becomes habit, or second nature, or just a part of how you
    eat, then that’s the time to pick your next goal.

     

    But, let’s focus on one thing at a time.
