Accident Leads to DUI, Catalytic Converter Stolen at Hospital

The following police reports are from the Lake Forest Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Consumption of alcohol by a minor

On Nov. 8 at 9:14 a.m. police and a fire department ambulance responded to a home in the 200 block of North Mayflower Road for a report of an intoxicated, unconscious teen. The girl, 16, was transported by ambulance to Lake Forest Hospital and later cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor. She has an administrative hearing at City Hall on Dec. 11.

Burglary to a motor vehicle

At least five unlocked cars parked at three homes were entered and items were taken overnight between 10 p.m. on Nov. 6 and 8 a.m. on Nov. 7. This happened in the 900 block of West Pine Croft, the 2000 block of North Knollwood and the 500 block of West Old Mill Road. All of these homes are on side streets immediately adjacent to Waukegan Road. Items taken include a cell phone, laptop, tablet and personal items. One homeowner heard someone outside the home at about 3:45 a.m. near the driveway.

Theft

On Nov. 15 between 2 and 2:45 p.m. a car owner discovered that the catalytic converter was removed from her car while it was parked at Lake Forest Hospital.

Driving while license suspended

Guillermo I. Medina, 19, of Niles was stopped Nov. 5 at 12:28 p.m. after police said he was observed swerving across lane markings on Route 41. He was taken into custody when he was found to be driving on a suspended driver’s license. Medina was processed and released on bond with a court date of Dec. 3.

On Nov. 3 at 8:53 p.m., police responded to calls that an SUV was intentionally driving over laws in the Onwentsia Gardens subdivision. An officer located the vehicle, driven by Jon W. Wagenknecht, 19, of Lake Forest, according to reports. He was taken into custody and charged with criminal damage to property. He was released on bond with a Dec. 3 court date.

DUI

On Nov. 2 at 12:16 a.m., police said they observed a car driven by Kumiko Hushino, 49, of Lake Forest, strike another vehicle then swerve across lane markings on both Western Avenue and Westminster. When stopped, police said she admitted to drinking, failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. She later produced a breath sample indicating a blood alcohol content of 0.156. She was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and operating an uninsured vehicle. She has a Nov. 26 court date.

DUI

On Nov. 1 at 8:20 p.m., police stopped Steven J. Ocepek, 30, of Mundelein, for speeding 70 mph in a 45 mph zone, according to police reports. He admitted to drinking, exhibited a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and refused to take field sobriety tests, telling the officer he would fail them, police said. He was taken into custody and charged with DUI, operating an uninsured vehicle and speeding. He was processed and released with a Dec. 10 court date. Because he refused to complete all the chemical tests required, his driving privileges will be suspended for a minimum of 12 months.
