Blotter: Street Racers Slowed Down; Woman Caught Removing Handcuffs

LAKE BLUFF

A Samsung cellphone was found at Sunrise and Mountain avenues and turned into the  at 8:25 a.m. April 21. The item was logged into found property.

A black Blackberry cellphone was found at  and turned into the Public Safety Building at 5:11 p.m. April 16. The item was logged into found property.

Possible Suicide Check

An officer conducted a foot patrol by the railroad tracks along Sheridan Road south from the Lake Bluff Train Depot for a missing possible suicide juvenile from Lake Forest at 12:52 a.m. April 19. The officer stopped checking once the juvenile was located in Lake Forest. The officer did observe a hole in a fence on the west side of the railroad tracks just south of the trail bridge. A service request will be forwarded to Union Pacific Railroad for repair.

Suspicious Circumstance

A complainant reported finding empty alcohol bottles/cans in the men’s locker room at the  at 9:05 a.m. April 17. The items were found at 6:30 p.m. April 14 by a cleaning crew employee. The complainant said kids are jumping over the fence at the pool. They are taking items and bringing them to the skate park. They took apart a lattice fence and used it in the skate park. The police department will conduct extra patrols of the area.

Criminal Damage

The owner of a 2009 Audi parked at the Lake Bluff Racquet Club reported a small nylon punch containing reading glasses was removed from her car between 10:30 a.m. and noon April 16. The approximate value is $70. The rear passenger window had been broken to gain entry.

Theft

A wrought-iron bistro set of two chairs and a table were reported stolen from the front porch of a home in the 50 block of Trowbridge Circle at 11:27 a.m. April 15. The theft was estimated to have taken place between April 13 and April 15. The total value was estimated at $100. Nothing else was reported missing.

Battery

Sherri R. Nikiforakis, 48, of Beach Park, was charged with battery from an incident reported April 17 in the 100 block of Albrecht Drive. A woman said she arrived for her shift work at 5:45 a.m. April 16. While walking to her station, Nikiforakis grabbed her left arm and shoved her into a shelving unit. Nikiforakis posted a personal recognizance bond pending a June 5 court date in Waukegan. 

Curfew Violation, Minor Consumption of Alcohol

An officer observed open and discarded beer cans near vehicles parked in the 700 block of East Center Avenue at 2:19 a.m. April 22. The officer then entered the North beach area and observed four males at the south shelter. The four 19-year-olds were each cited for curfew violation and charged with minor consumption of alcohol. Each posted a persional recognizance bond pending a June 5 court date in Park City. The four teens were identified as being from out of state.


LAKE FOREST

Driving Under the Influence

Richard T. Wetherald, 62, 999 Castlegate Court, Lake Forest, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident at 11:29 a.m. April 14 near Route 41 and Westleigh Avenue. Wetherald was involved in a rear-end collision. Police said he had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken to for blood testing. He posted a $3,000 personal recognizance bond pending a May 22 court date in Waukegan.

Trespass to Property, Disorderly Conduct

Lawrence R. Kinnucan, 60, whose last known address is 20 E. Old Elm Road, Lake Forest, was charged with trespass to property and disorderly conduct at 1:15 p.m. April 10 in the 200 block of Deerpath. After being asked to leave, Kinnucan refused to leave private property. He told the employee that he was going to burn her with gasoline. He was slated to attend a bond hearing pending an April 10 court date in Waukegan. No further information was available.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Jushawn L. Harris, 18, 600 W. Washington Ave., Lake Bluff, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 10:05 a.m. April 10 in the 200 block of Noble Avenue. Harris possessed a water bong used to smoke marijuana. He posted a $75 bond pending a May 15 court date in Park City.

Street Racing, Speeding

Christian S. Kneifel, 18, 261 E. Owentsia, Lake Forest, and a 16-year-old juvenile from Lake Bluff were each charged with street racing and speeding at 12:06 a.m. April 6 near Waukegan Road and Gavin Court. Each driver was clocked at 88 mph by radar in a 45 mph speed zone. The juvenile also was charged with violation of his graduated driver's license. Each surrendered his driver's license and posted a $200 bond pending a May 1 court date in Park City.

Minor Consumption of Alcohol

A 16-year-old Lake Forest juvenile was charged with minor consumption of alcohol at 10:46 p.m. April 5 in the 800 block of Summit Avenue. The juvenile was found to have consumed alcohol and was younger than age 21. He was released to his mother. He was assigned an administrative hearing May 9 at .

Speeding, Driving While License Suspended

Susana Lozano, 33, 2501 Lewis Ave., Zion, was charged with speeding, driving while license suspended, resisting a peace officer, and obstructing identification at 10:20 p.m. April 4 near Route 41 and Gage Lane. Lozano was stopped for traveling 78 mph in a 55 mph speed zone and provided a false name and date of birth. She resisted arrest by removing the handcuffs and actively resisting being removed from the car for re-handcuffing. Lozano posted $150 bond pending an April 19 court date in Waukegan. No further information was available.

Failure to Provide Information Upon Damaging/Striking Another Vehicle, Disorderly Conduct

Marguerite C. Emanuel, 64, 2780 St. Mary's Road, Mettawa, was charged with failure to provide information upon damaging/striking another vehicle and disorderly conduct at 12:31 p.m. April 5 in the 500 block of Western Avenue. Emanuel was backing out of a parking space in a parking lot and struck another vehicle. After the collision, she behaved in an aggressive manner, frightening the complainant and her children, and then threatening to strike her vehicle again if she did not move. Emanuel fled the area and was located by police. Emanuel was assigned an administrative hearing May 1 in Park City.
