Blotter: Shopping for Scrap Metal After Midnight? Teen Party Attracts Numbers, Police

Stray Dog

A yellow lab with a blue collar and no tags was found at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 12 at 120 W. Center. The dog was transported to Knollwood Animal Hospital.

Traffic Enforcement

Officer conducted a traffic stop at Route 43 and Carriage Park Lane and issued a warning for improper lane usage at 12:30 a.m. Nov. 10. Prior to the traffic stop, the officer noticed the vehicle traveling at a slow rate of speed on Sherwood Terrace. When the driver saw the officer, he slammed on the brakes and then drove at a faster pace than previously. The driver said he had permission to check for scrap metal in the 900 block of Sherwood Terrace. There were two passengers in the car. All three men had lengthy criminal histories, and two were on parole. There were tools in the vehicle for use in cutting metal. After clearing the suspects, the officer drove to the specific location on Sherwood Terrace where an employee said they were aware scrappers were taking items out of the dumpster. No further assistance was needed.

Suspicious Person

Officers responded to the 300 block of Belle Foret Drive for a report of a suspicious male in the area at 5:03 p.m. Nov. 7. The complainant said her daughter called her and said a white or Hispanic male was watching her and a friend jumping on the trampoline in the back yard of the residence. There was a 10-minute delay from the time of the incident and when officers were contacted. Officers checked the area and the subject was not found. Officers did observe some disturbed brush in the tree line at the rear of the residence. Officers met with the daughter, who said the subject was around 30-40 years old, wearing blue jeans, white or gray sweatshirt, and possibly a baseball hat. When they saw the subject, they ran into the house and contacted the complainant. Officers spoke with the next door neighbor, who said she did not see anyone walking between the two properties and that no one in her residence matches that description. Officers conducted multiple extra patrols of the Lake Bluff Golf Course and did not locate any subjects matching that description.

Animal Complaint

Officer responded to the 400 block of Oak Ridge Court to assist a homeowner with removing a squirrel that was trapped inside the residence at 3:45 p.m. Nov. 6. Officer was able to remove a window and with a little coaxing, the squirrel jumped out the window.

Minor Consumption of Alcohol, Curfew Violation

A 17-year-old juvenile was charged with disobeying a traffic device, operating a vehicle after curfew, no driver's license and no insurance while a 17-year-old passenger was charged with minor consumption of alcohol, curfew violation, resisting arrest and obstructing the duties of a peace officer at 12:40 a.m. Nov. 13 at the intersection of McKinley and Sheridan Roads. The officer conducted a traffic stop after the driver disobeyed a stop sign heading southbound on McKinley Road. Since the driver was out after curfew, his license was invalid. The officer determined the passenger had consumed alcohol, and in the process of the arrest the passenger fled but was apprehended by the officer. Both juveniles posted personal recognizance bonds and were released to their parents pending a Dec. 6 court date in Park City.

Accident Property Damage

Samuel Diaz, 24, of Waukegan, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no license at 1:49 p.m. Nov. 12 at the intersection of Waukegan Road and Route 176. Diaz rear-ended the vehicle in front of him. He was released on bond pending a Dec. 6 court date in Park City.

Delayed burglary

Sydney Services, 725 Skokie Highway, reported a delayed burglary at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 9. An offender entered an unsecured window on the north side of the building early on the morning of Nov. 9 and took a pair of gloves worth $45 and a jacket worth $100. The case is still under investigation.

VPN Welding, 102 Skokie Valley Road, reported a delayed burglary at 2:50 p.m. Nov. 9. The suspect(s) took several unsecured items from the north side of the building on the night of Nov. 8, including two, 4-foot-by-4-foot steel baskets worth $1,800 each, and a large piece of steel worth $500. The case is still under investigation.

Criminal Damage

A white wooden gate at a residence in the 300 block of Mawman Avenue was reported damaged at 5:52 p.m. Nov. 9. The gate, located on the south side entrance to the back yard, was kicked in at the center and knocked off its hinges. The incident occured some time earlier in the month. No value was given for the gate.

Theft - Telephone Scam

A resident in the 600 block of East Scranton Avenue reported a telephone scam at 3:06 p.m. Nov. 8. The scam was a sweepstakes contest in which the victim was asked to wire $600 by Western Union in order to receive the prize.

 

LAKE FOREST

Driving Under the Influence (DUI)

Jose Campos-Figueroa, 31, 53 Highwood Ave., Highwood, was charged with DUI, aggravated DUI, speeding, improper lane usage and driving with license revoked at 1:40 a.m. Nov. 6 at the intersection of Routes 41 and 60. Campos-Figueroa was stopped for traveling 90 in a 45mph speed zone, and found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He failed a field sobriety tests and refused to submit to a breath test. He was also wanted on a failure to appear warrant from
Lake County.

Criminal Damage to Property

A victim reported someone smashed out the rear window to his vehicle and slashed a rear tire at 10:54 p.m. Nov. 5 in the 1100 block of Wilson Drive.

Minor Consumption of Alcohol

Lake Forest Police responded to a large teen party in the 500 block of Briar Lane at 9:23 p.m. Oct. 29 where a 17-year-old female was arrested for consumption of alcohol while being under the age of 21. Two residents at the party, a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old, were also charged with social hosting. The party was attended by a large number of teens and considerable damage was done to the home. The case remains under investigation. The female teen was assigned an administrative hearing at 9 a.m. Dec. 14 at Lake Forest City Hall.
