Blotter: Woman Watching Sunrise from her Car; Lake Forest Structure Fire Limited to Garage

Suspicious Circumstance

An officer responded to the area of East Prospect and Sunrise avenues for a report of a female who had passed out behind the wheel at 9:59 a.m. Oct. 22. The officer met with the driver, who was on her cell phone. No assistance was needed. She had been watching the sunrise as she does every morning, she told the officer.

Stray Dog

An officer responded to the corner of East Center Avenue and Moffett Road for a report of a puppy lying under a vehicle at 8 p.m. Oct. 21. The officer was able to retrieve the dog and take it to Knollwood Animal Hospital.

Found Property

An officer received a found property report regarding several antique pieces of jewelry found in the area of North and Oak avenues in some bushes at 9:33 a.m. Oct. 21. The items were logged into evidence. Also, the items were in a bag that had been exposed to the elements for some time.

Oct. 25

No Valid Driver's License

Luis Abarca, 29, of Highwood, was charged with driving without a valid license and no rear registration light at 1:19 a.m. Oct. 23 near the intersection of Carriage Lane and Waukegan Road. Abarca posted bond pending a Dec. 6 court date in Park City.

Theft

Earl Tarvin, 29, of Vernon Hills, and an 18-year-old female were charged with retail theft at 3:56 p.m. Oct. 20 at Dominick's, 201 S. Waukegan Road. The pair stole six. 23-ounce cans of Enfamil, and one 20-ounce can of Enfamil for a total of $160.63. The pair left and were arrested after trying to steal alcohol from a Jewel in Northbrook. They were each released on a personal recognizance bond pending a Nov. 22 court date in Waukegan.

Driving Under the Influence (DUI)

Donald Simon, 41, of Lake Forest, was charged with driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, leaving the scene of an property damage accident and possession of marijuana under 2.5 grams at 10:53 p.m. Oct. 16 near the intersection of Route 176 and Skokie Highway. Simon's car rear-ended another vehicle, and then he left the scene. When he was pulled over by police, they noticed he was intoxicated. He was released on a personal recognizance bond pending a Nov. 18 court date in Waukegan.

Found Article

A Huffy, blue and white bicycle was found at 11:26 a.m. Oct. 16 near the Knauz Smart Car dealership, 409 Skokie Highway. It was logged into the Found Property book.

 

LAKE FOREST

Structure Fire

The , with assistance from surrounding fire departments, extinguished a garage fire in the 400 block of Illinois Road at 9 p.m. Oct. 18. The fire is believed to have started with a garage heater being used for the first time this season. Illinois Road was blocked off for fire operations for 2 hours, 15 minutes. No injuries reported.

No Valid Driver's License, Speeding

Juan Carlos Perez, 22, 572 Barberry Road, Highland Park, was charged with speeding, operating an uninsured vehicle, no valid driver's license and obstructing justice at 9:45 p.m. Oct. 16 near Route 41 and Gage Lane. Perez was stopped for driving 71 mph in a 55 mph zone. He provided a false name to the officer, police said. Perez posted a $200 bond pending a Nov. 15 court date in Park City.

Minor Consumption of Alcohol

Osayi A. Menzies, 18, 63 Orleans, Lowell, Mass.; Bryan D. Feltmann, 18, 10335 S. Artesian, Chicago, and Thomas P. Mitchell, 19, 2614 W. 96th Place, Evergreen Park, were each charged with minor consumption of alcohol at 2 a.m. Oct. 16 in the 700 block of Forest Park. The trio was found to have consumed an alcoholic beverage at the beach. They were each assigned an administrative hearing on Nov. 9 at .
