Blotter: Man Makes Threatening Gesture With Finger; Warm Weather Means Keep An Eye on Your Dog

LAKE BLUFF

No Valid Driver's License

Claudia Mijangos-Garga, 31, Waukegan, was charged with posssessing no valid driver's license, improper vehicle lighting and no vehicle insurance during a traffic stop at 3:39 a.m. May 21 on southbound Route 41 near West Washington Avenue. Lijangos-Garga was initially pulled over for having only one functioning headlight on her car. She was released pending a June 7 court date in Park City.

Theft

Two North Chicago men were charged with criminal trespassing, and one was charged with theft at 11:11 a.m. May 18 in the 10 block of East Woodland Road. Selassie Ford, 43, of North Chicago, was charged with theft of cable wiring from a house under construction and criminal trespass, while Joseph Sandoval, 20, also of North Chicago, was charged with criminal trespass. While on patrol in an area where previous thefts had taken place, officers noticed the two men near the house, which had 'no trespassing' signs posted on the property. Both men were released on personal recognizance bonds pending a June 21 court date in Park City.

Found Property

A blue boys bicycle was found in the 300 block of Mawman Avenue on May 21, where it had been sitting for two days. The bicycle was placed in the garage at the Lake Bluff Public Safety Building.

No Valid Parking Sticker

Five vehicles were ticketed in the parking lot of the Union Pacific Train Depot at 11:52 a.m. May 20 for not displaying valid parking stickers of daily permit.

Stray Dog

A black and brown dog was running at large at 8:16 a.m. May 19 in the 399 block of West Washington Avenue. The complainant attempted to catch the dog, but it would run away. The officer attempted to catch the dog, but the dog would not let the officer get within 30 feet before running away. The dog was still at large.

Suspicious Circumstance

An officer responded to the 900 block of Sherwood Drive at 11:17 a.m. May 19 for a report of a suspicious person, a male Hispanic, who entered the store stating he was from ComEd and was there to collect a past due electric bill. The subject let the area in white-colored Toyota Scion TC with a large red-colored Tap Out sticker in the rear window. Before speaking with the complainant, the officer checked the area and could not locate the vehicle. The complainant said he called ComEd and they stated no one was sent to collect a past due bill. He said he delayed calling the police by 10 minutes. The subject was described as a male Hispanic, 6 feet tall, medium build, short, dark hair, in his 20s, and wearing a dark-colored shirt and tie.

Faulty Carbon Monoxide Detector

An officer responded to the 100 block of West Witchwood Lane for a report of an activated carbon monoxide detector at 5:14 a.m. May 18. The homeowner changed the battery and the carbon monoxide detector continued to show a gas reading. The Lake Bluff Fire Department responded and determined the detector was faulty.

Animal Complaint

An officer responded to the intersection of Moffett Road at East Witchwood Lane for a report of a small black toy dog at large at 6:16 a.m. May 17. The officer located the dog and made several attempts to catch the dog, but was unsuccessful. The dog was last seen running north on Moffett Road.

Animal Complaint

An officer responded to the 500 block of East Scranton Avenue for a report of a stray dog at 6:06 a.m. May 16. The officer located a large white Husky dog at Evanston and East Center Avenue. A voicemail was left for the possible homeowner. The dog was transported to Knollwood Animal Hospital and entered into the found animal book.

 

LAKE FOREST

Disorderly Conduct

Michael D. Taylor, 39, 740 Llewellyn Ave., Highland Park, was charged with disorderly conduct at 9:15 a.m. May 12 in the 500 block of Sheridan Road. Taylor made a threatening statement and gesture to an individual. He stated that he would get a gun and shoot his deceased life partner's children and himself. He made a shooting gesture with his finger. Taylor was released on bond pending a June 21 court date in Park City.

Driving Under the Influence (DUI)

Carmelo Pena-Serrano, 36, 312 Highwood Ave., Highwood, was charged with improper lane usage, driving under the influence, DUI over .08 and no valid driver's license at 5:45 p.m. May 15 at the intersection of Westleigh and Western avenues. Pena-Serrano was stopped for a traffic violation, and was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He failed field sobriety tests and submitted to a breath test indicating a blood alcohol level of .176. He was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond pending a June 14 court date in Waukegan.

Solicitation Without a Permit

Curressia D. Walton, 23, 969 Palmetto Ave. SW, Atlanta, Ga., was charged with solicitation without a permit at 8:45 p.m. May 12 in the 1200 block of North McKinley Avenue. Walton was selling magazine and clothing without a permit. Walton was released on a $120 personal recognizance bond pending a June 21 court date in Park City.
