Blotter: Vehicle Burglaries in Lake Forest, Lake Bluff Have Same Ring to Them

Criminal Damage

Two Lake Bluff homes had their picture windows broken by a rock or brick thrown at the houses between midnight and 1:30 a.m. Sept. 25 in the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue and the 200 block of West Sheridan Place, respectively. No monetary value has been placed on replacing the windows at this time. In the West Sheridan Place incident, the resident heard a crashing noise from the living room where he found a large hole through his west facing window and a piece of stone on the floot. The hole was 12 inches in diameter. Photos were taken by police at the scenes, and both incidents are under investigation.

Open Garage Doors

Police reported three garage doors opened at residences after midnight Sept. 25. The same was true on Sept. 20. In those instances, officers leave a crime opportunity form in case anything was taken.

Carbon Monoxide Warning

Officer responded to the 100 block of Rockland Road for an activated carbon monoxide detector at 12:51 a.m. Sept. 23. The homeowner stated he was fine. On examination, the detector activated due to a low battery.

Solicitor Complaint

Officers responded to the 30 block of East North Avenue for a solicitor working for Justy Energy asking to see the complainant's gas bill at 5:20 p.m. Sept. 21. The solicitor was described as a male black with dreadlocks, Just Energy shirt and brown pants. The officer located the solicitor in the 200 block of East Scranton Avenue, and man did not know a permit was required to solicit. He was issued a warning.

No Parking Permit

An officer conducting parking enforcement at the Lake Bluff Train Depot issued seven tickets for "No Parking Permit" displayed at 8:44 a.m. Sept. 21.

Carbon Monoxide Symptoms

Officer responded to the 20 block of East Washington Avenue at 2:38 a.m. Sept. 19 where an apartment tenant was exhibiting symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. The carbon monoxide detector was going off. Officer assisted in ventilation of the apartment while Lake Bluff Fire Department and Lake Forest Ambulance assisted the individual.

LAKE FOREST

Vehicle Burglary

Two cars parked in the a parking lot on the 500 block of Westmoreland Road were broken into and two purses containing $1,200 in cash, passports, credit cards and other miscellaneous items at 10:16 a.m. Sept. 21. The suspects, identified as two black males, broke out the windows of each car. The two cars were a gold Mercedes sport utility vehicle and a silver Mercedes wagon.

Minor Consumption of Alcohol

Mesfin D. Feleke, 20, 307 Roberts Hall, 555 Sheridan Road, , was charged with minor consumption of alcohol at 1 a.m. Sept. 17 in the 500 block of Sheridan Road. security called Lake Forest police when Feleke was described as extremely intoxicated, uncooperative and flexing. He was found sitting on a bench near the student center, and was transported to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. He was assigned an administrative hearing Oct. 12 at Lake Forest City Hall. 

A 14-year-old Lake Forest juvenile was charged with minor consumption of alcohol at 10:51 p.m. Sept. 16 near Bowling Green Drive and Old Barn Lane. Police were called for an underage intoxicated juvenile lying in the grass. He said he had consumed four shots of vodka, and was being driven home when he felt sick and was let out of the vehicle. The vehicle left. A short time later, the teen's mother arrived. He was released to her custody after being processed. He was assigned an administrative hearing Oct. 12 at Lake Forest City Hall.

Meghan R. Mason, 20 3284 Waverly, Colorado Springs, Colo., was charged with minor consumption of alcohol at 10:04 am. Sept. 10 in the 500 block of Sheridan Road. Lake Forest Security called Lake Forest police for a female who was described as extremely intoxicated. She had been consuming beers during a "case race." Mason was transported to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. She was assigned an administrative hearing Oct. 12 at Lake Forest City Hall.

Battery, Disorderly Conduct

Brian Grant, 21, 11141 S. King Drive, Chicago, was charged with battery and disorderly conduct at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 11 in the 500 block of Sheridan Road. Grant was reported to have made intentional physical contact of an insulting nature, placing his hands on the inside leg of the victim and asking to see her breasts. He was released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond pending a Sept. 26 court date in Waukegan.
