Blotter: Where's the Beef? Inside Solicitor's Truck, but no Permit to Sell

LAKE BLUFF 

Open Garage Door

Officer observed an open garage door in the 10 block of East Washington Avenue at 12:36 a.m. Oct. 1.

Officer observed an open garage door in the 90 block of Briarfield Court at 3:08 a.m. Sept. 28.

Officer observed an open garage door in the 600 block of Rockland Avenue at 1:27 a.m. Sept. 28.

Officer observed an open garage door in the 200 block of West Washington Avenue at 1:37 a.m. Sept. 28.

Officer observed an open garage door in the 300 block of Thornwood Lane at 2:40 a.m. Sept. 28.

Solcitor Complaint

Officer responded to the 50 block of Inverness Court for a solicitor selling eat out of his truck at 6:21 p.m. Sept. 29. On the side of the truck are the words, US Beef. Officer located the vehicle on Inverness Court at Armour Drive. Drive stated he did not have a solicitor's permit and was issued a warning.

Carbon Monoxide Detector

Officer responded to the 40 block of East Scranton Avenue for a report of an activated carbon monoxide alarm at 6:52 a.m. Sept. 26. Officer met with the resident, who believed the batteries to be dead. The officer replaced the batteries, but the unit continued to beep. Lake Bluff Fire Chief Dave Graff arrived and provided loaner CO detector, which was installed.

LAKE FOREST

Minor Consumption of Alcohol

Mitchell A. Reiner, 18, 555 Sheridan Road, Lake Forest, was charged with minor consumption of alcohol at 12:50 a.m. Sept. 24 in the 500 block of Sheridan Road. Lake Forest College called for an ambulance due to an intoxicated subject, who was under the age of 21 and stated he had consumed six shots and four beers. Reiner was assigned an administrative hearing Oct. 12 at .

Romario Sanntoyo, 20, 3432 W. LeMoyne St. Chicago, was charged with minor consumption of alcohol at 12:15 a.m. Sept. 3. Lake Forest College called for an ambulance due to an intoxicated subject, who was under the age of 21 and stated he had consumed an alcoholic beverage. Sanntoyo was assigned an administrative hearing Oct. 12 at Lake Forest City Hall.

Joseph K. Lund, 20, 511 15th Avenue SW, Rochester, Minn., was charged with minor consumption of alcohol and disorderly conduct at 1:28 a.m. Sept. 24 in the 500 block of Sheridan Road. Security called police for an underage male who was involved in an altercation at Lake Forest College. Lund was making noise and disturbing others, and also fought with college security. He had consumed alcohol and was under the age of 21. Lund was released on a $120 bond pending an Oct. 18 court date in Park City.

Theft from Motor Vehicle

A victim reported sometime between 1 and 2:30 p.m. Sept. 24, an unknown person(s) broke into the front passenger window of her car and removed a checkbook wallet from her purse at Lake Forest High School's West Campus, 300 S. Waukegan Road. The wallet contained personal checks, credit cards, gift cards, a debit card and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Driving under the Influence-Combined (DUI)

John G. Merwin, 70, 2205 N. Butrick, Waukegan, was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane usage at 8:12 p.m. Sept. 21 near the intersection of Deerpath and Western Avenue. The officer witnessed Merwin drive his vehicle on the sidewalk, through some bushes, nearly fall off the roadway onto the railroad tracks, crossed over to the westbound lane of traffic, made a wide right turn only stopping after he struck the rear of the police car. Merwin admitted to drinking alcohol and also stated he was on medication. He was charged with DUI-combined for alcohol and drugs. He was taken to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital for blood and urine testing. Results were still pending. He was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond pending an Oct. 11 court date in Waukegan.

Driving Under the Influence/ DUI over .08

Maksim Kauffman, 23, 759 Williams Way, Vernon Hills, was charged with driving under the influence, DUI over .08 and disobeying a traffic control signal at 5:10 a.m. Sept. 18 near the intersection of Westleigh Road and Route 41. Kauffman was found asleep in his vehicle obstructing traffic. The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol from Kauffman's slurred speech. He failed field sobriety tests and submitted a breath sample that indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .098. The legal limit is .08. Kauffman was released on a $300 bond pending an Oct. 11 court date in Waukegan.
