Blotter: Food Missing from her Porch, Orchid Missing from Store

LAKE FOREST

No Valid Driver's License

Dominic W. Wanzer, 23, 935 N. Cass St., Milwaukee, Wis., was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, no valid driver's license and operating an uninsured vehicle at 9:34 a.m. Feb. 26 near the intersection of Route 41 and Deerpath. Officers responded to a report of a vehicle that drove off the roadway. Wanzer said he fell asleep while driving and was very tired. He admitted to consuming alcohol. Wanzer failed field sobriety tests, and was transported to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital for blood and urine tests. Samples were transported to the Northern Illinois Regional Crime Laboratory for analysis. He was held at the hospital for evaluation to obtain a blood alcohol concentration level. No further information was available. He posted a $300 bond pending an April 24 court date in Waukegan.

 

LAKE BLUFF

Solicitor Complaint

Officer responded to a resident's complaint in the 300 block of East Woodland Road of people in a black-colored jeep throwing soliciting material on the driveway of several residents at 9:49 a.m. March 10. Officer observed a Jeep matching the description driving west on North Avenue from Evanston Avenue. Officer observed the passenger throw an item onto driveways on the north side of the road. Officer conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for soliciting without a permit and one to the passenger for littering. Both posted $75 bonds pending an April 17 court date in Park City.

Theft

Officer responded to the 200 block of West Center Avenue and met with homeowner, who said food had been stolen from the front porch at 11:11 a.m. March 10. Resident said she had a box of wine and frozen meats and vegetable in a plastic Navy Exchange bag on her front porch. She was keeping the food outside because there was no room in the refrigerator. A neighbor noted the Boy Scouts were conducting a food drive and were out in the area picking up food. E-mail contact was made with a local Scout leader, but no response as of March 10.

Officer responded to the 900 block of North Shore Drive for a report of a theft that occurred 10 minutes prior at 12:42 p.m. March 5. The complainant said the man entered the store and stole a Cattleya Orchid by placing it inside of his coat and walking out to his vehicle. The complainant followed the man out to his vehicle, and asked the man if he wanted them to wrap up the item and he stated that he purchased it at another store. No formal complaint was filed, but the complainant stated she did not want the man to be allowed back into the store. The officer contacted the offender and advised him of the complaint. He said he did not steal anything and doesn't know what they are talking about. The officer requested the man to bring the item back if he did take something and return it to the police department. He was not to return to the store or he would be arrested.

Found Article

Officer found a set of car keys to a Mazda at Sunrise Beach at 10:26 a.m. March 4. The keys were logged into found property at the Public Safety Building.
