Blotter: Witness, Victim Help Police Track Down Hit-And-Run Suspect

LAKE BLUFF

Suspended License

Sherry Boatman, 48, of Lake Bluff, was charged with having a suspended license at 12:53 a.m. Aug. 26 near the intersection of Safford and Waukegan roads. Boatman was initially pulled over for no rear registration light on her 1998 Chevy. She was released on a personal recognizance bond pending an Oct. 4 court date in Park City.

Driving Under the Influence (DUI)

Charles Parsons, 48, of Carpentersville, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to give a change of address to the Secretary of State at 1:50 a.m. Aug. 26 near the intersection of Sheridan Road at Crabtree Farms. Parsons' car was parked on the shoulder on Sheridan Road with the vehicle running and the lights on. The officer stopped to conduct a well-being checked and smelled alcohol on Parsons. Following a search of the car, a red smoking pipe was discovered. Parsons was released on a bond pending an Oct. 21 court date in Waukegan.

Suspicious Circumstance

Officers discovered a wire fence pulled down for access to the Stonebridge Manor in the 100 block of Green Bay Road at 6 p.m. Aug. 25. Officers drove into Stonebridge and discovered the exterior padlocks on the Manor House had been pulled off. A shattered window was found on one of the townhouses. No items appeared to be missing.

Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor

Israel Villa, 19, of North Chicago, was charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol,unlawful possession of alcohol, running a stop sign, driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia at 12:59 a.m. Aug. 25 near the intersection of Sheridan Road and Sheridan Place. Officer observed Villa run the stop sign and conducted a traffic stop and found the driver to possess a suspended driver's license. A green leafy substance was found under the front seat, an open bottle of alcohol on the floor of the back seat and a smoking pipe. He was released on bond pending an Oct. 4 court date in Waukegan.

 

Found Article

A resident brought a child's pink-zippered sweatshirt with the word, "Canada," on the front to the Public Safety Building at 7:39 p.m. Aug. 27. The sweatshirt was found in the 200 block of West Scranton Avenue. The article was logged into found property.

Animal Complaint

Officer responded to the 200 block of East Prospect Avenue for a report of a possibly sick bat at 6:34 p.m. Aug. 26. The complainant had secured the bat in a small cardboard box. Lake County Animal Control was contacted and said the animal could be destroyed without lab testing. The officer transported the bat to the Lake Bluff Public Works building. When he opened the box, the bat flew away and appeared uninjured or sick.

Suspicious Person

Officer responded to the 900 block of Sherwood Drive at 10:49 a.m. Aug. 26 where he met the complainant, who said an elderly man parked his vehicle in the parking lot of the business, and walked over to the Smedbo sign. The man then sat down on an electrical box along Waukegan Road. The complainant tried to make contact with the man, but the man just stared at him. The man then stood along Waukegan Road and waved his arms. Shortly after, a man walked across Waukegan Road and escorted the elderly man to his vehicle. With both subjects in the vehicle, they traveled southbound on Waukegan Road. They left prior to the officer's arrival.

Dog Impounded

A yellow Labrador was found running at large on East Prospect Avenue at 12:50 p.m. Aug. 25. The officer impounded the animal at Knollwood Animal Hospital.

Carbon Monoxide Detector Malfunction

Officers responded to the 300 block of East North Avenue for a carbon monoxide detector activation at 12:29 a.m. Aug. 22. The alarm was likely due to a low battery. In another instance, a carbon monoxide alarm was due to a cobweb in the detector at 9:01 p.m. Aug. 24 in the 300 block of Birkdale Avenue.

LAKE FOREST

Minor Consumption of Alcohol

Five individuals were charged with minor consumption of alcohol in the 700 block of Forest Park Drive at 2:07 a.m. Aug. 24. The five individuals were found at Forest Park Beach, each had consumed alcohol and were found to be younger than 21. They included: Dustin J. Driscoll, 20, 555 Sheridan Road; Miranda P. Ludwig 18, 555 Sheridan Road; Andrew S. Bradley, 20, 555 Sheridan Road; Amy V. Lancaster, 20, 1007 N. Church St., Elkhorn, Wis., and Samuel B. Murphy, 20, 555 Sheridan Road. Each was assigned an administrative hearing at 9 a.m. Sept. 14.

Driving Under the Influence

John T. Diller, 29, 25751 Oak Lane, Ingleside, was charged with improper lane use, leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence and DUI over .08 near the intersection of Routes 41 and 60 at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18. Witnesses reported a hit-and-run crash at the intersection. Diller fled the scene followed by the witness and the victim, police reported. He was stopped by police in Waukegan, where he was turned over to Lake Forest police. He failed field sobriety tests and submitted a breath sample which indicated a blood-alcohol concentration of .171. Diller posted a $100 bond and his driver's license pending a Sept. 13 court date in Waukegan.

Theft

A lawn sculpture was taken in the 500 block of Hathaway Circle between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Aug. 17. The sculpture is a 4-foot girl drinking from a garden hose with an approximate value of $798.

Burglary

A safe was taken from a home in the 1200 block of Longmeadow Lane at 8:37 p.m. Aug. 12. The officer responded to a burglar alarm and found the front and back doors standing open. The homeowners were not at home at the time. No further details were available.
