Blotter: Woman Has Identity Crisis During DUI Incident; Stolen Items Lead To Man's Arrest

Illegal Consumption/Transportation of Alcohol by a Minor

Daniel Horvat, 19, of Lake Bluff, was charged with driving with only one headlight, driving an uninsured vehicle, no driver's license and illegal transportation of alcohol at 12:14 a.m. Aug. 9 near the intersection of Sheridan Road and Arbor Drive. Two passengers in the car were also charged. Lauren Okane, 19, Sunset Hills, Mo., was charged with consumption of alcohol, while James Tyra, 19, also of Sunset Hills, Mo., was charged with possession of alcohol. Horvat was originally stopped for the one headlight, and police found a bottle of whiskey and beer in the vehicle.

Assist Fire Department

An officer observed smoke coming from a dumpster behind Inovasi's restaurant, 28 E. Center Ave., at 3:51 p.m. Aug. 19. The fire was extinguished. No known cause was given for the fire.

Theft

A delayed theft report taken at 4:47 p.m. Aug. 19 revealed three distinct antique watches were taken from Clockworks, 34 E. Center Ave., last month. The three watches included: a 14-karat gold Welker valued at $475; a 14-karat gold Rose Gold watch with diamonds, sapphires and other jewels valued at $2,250, and a Diseta 18-karat yellow gold watch valued at $1, 695. Police did not know whether the watches were taken during business or non-business hours.

A delayed report taken at 10:58 a.m. Aug. 19 noted the theft of copper downspouts in the 700 block of Mountain Avenue. There was no value given for the downspouts and no specific timeframe for when they were taken.

Outstanding Warrant

Senator Lynch, 34, of Waukegan, was arrested on an outstanding warrant during a traffic stop at 10:32 p.m. Aug. 17 in the 12000 block of Meadow Circle. Lynch was cited for missing a court appearance in Cook County. He posted the required 10 percent of his $5,000 bond pending a Sept. 15 court appearance in Cook County.

Found Bicycle

A Trek 820 bicycle with the colors black, white and blue, was found abandoned at 4:48 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Forest Bluff School, 8 W. Scranton Ave. The bicycle was logged into found property at the public Safety Building.

Aug. 21

Suspicious Circumstance

An officer responded to the 700 block of Birch Avenue for a natural gas odor investigation at 9:35 p.m. Aug. 19. Prior to the officer's arrival, complainant said the odor was gone. The officer checked the area and smelled a faint odor of gas by the back door next to the grille. The grille was removed, the gas knob was tightened and the odor did not return.

Sneaky Raccoon

A raccoon was reported in a dumpster of the 20 block of East Scranton Avenue at 10:04 a.m. Aug. 17. The raccoon buried itself under the boxes and the officer was unable to retrieve it. Officer recommended a professional service to remove the raccoon.

Found Property

A man's silver wedding band was found in the 700 block of East Scranton Avenue on Aug. 16. The officer logged the ring into found property and evidence at 12:52 p.m. Aug. 17.

A silver Kodak Easy Share C813 camera was turned into the Public Safety Building at 5:09 p.m. Aug. 16. The item was logged into found property.

Stray Dog

Officer transported a black Labrador Retriever to the Lake County Animal Shelter at 2:50 p.m. Aug. 16.

 

LAKE FOREST

Possession of Marijuana

Michael A. Hoda, 31, 1011 Asbury, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession of marijuana at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 4 in the 200 block of Wilshire Road. Hoda reported items stolen from his vehicle, and it was later determined of the stolen items were marijuana and related items. He was released on a $120 cash bond pending a Sept. 6 court date in Park City.

Driving under the Influence (DUI)

Maria Grimm, 44, 9143 S. Roberts Road, Hickory Hills, was charged with improper lane usage, operating an uninsured vehicle, DUI and DUI over .08. A motorist reported a vehicle driven by Grimm nearly caused a crash with the median and another vehicle in the roadway. She was stopped for improper lane usage. Grimm failed field sobriety tests and submitted a breath test indicating a blood alcohol concentration of .325. She was released on a $100 bond and surrendered her Illinois driver's license pending a Sept. 13 court date in Waukegan.

Victor Sanchez Mendez, 25, 844 Deerfield Road, Highland Park, was charged with improper lane usage, no valid driver's license, DUI, and DUI over .08 at 4:48 a.m. Aug. 14 in the 1200 block of North Sheridan Road. A motorist reported a vehicle crashed with a tree. Mendez was determined to have consumed alcohol. He failed field sobriety tests and submitted a breath test indicating a blood alcohol concentration of .179. He was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond pending a Sept. 13 court date in Waukegan.

Kelvin Leonel Flores-Martinez, 22, 2525 Butrick, Waukegan, was changed with improper lane usage, operating an uninsured vehicle, no valid driver's license, DUI and oper transportation of alcohol at 2:25 a.m. Aug. 14 near the intersection of Route 41 and Deerpath. A motorist reported a vehicle driving erratically. The vehicle was stopped for improper lane usage. Flores-Martinez was determined to have consumed alcohol. He failed field sobriety tests and submitted a breath test indicating a blood alcohol concentration of .06. He was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond pending a Sept. 13 court date in Waukegan.

Obstructing Justice/Warrants (2 counts)

Maria Hernandez-Perez, 36, 4202 Hickory Hills Drive, Waukegan, was changed with obstructing justice and 2 warrant counts at 8 a.m. Aug. 11 at the Lake Forest Public Safety Building. Hernandez-Perez was stopped for speeding. She provided the officer with false information by saying her name was Patricia Solas. She did not have a valid driver's license. Hernandez-Perez was released on a $25,000 bond pending an Aug. 11 court date in Waukegan. No further information was available.

Public Intoxication

A 16-year-old female juvenile from Lake Bluff was charged with public intoxication at 11:32 a.m. Aug. 13 in the 800 block of Summit Avenue. She was reportedly found unconscious in a restroom at West Park during the Lake Forest Days celebration. She was transported by ambulance to the hospital. She will attend an administrative hearing at 9 a.m. Sept. 14 at Lake Forest City Hall.

Minor Consumption of Alcohol

A 16-year-old female juvenile and a 17-year-old male juvenile, both of Lake Forest, were charged with minor consumption of alcohol at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 12 in the 1100 block of Gradview Lane. Officers obtained information of an underage drinking party. The arresting officer found the two juveniles had consumed alcohol and were issued administrative hearing tickets and released into the custody of their parents. Both will report at 9 a.m. Sept. 14 at Lake Forest City Hall.
