Man Falls Asleep in Police Car While His Chevy Catches Fire

Police said the man could not explain what happened when they responded to a crash involving his car.

A Chicago man fell asleep in a police car while his own car caught fire after a crash in Lake Forest last week.

Police responded to a car crash on IL Route 41 south of Westleigh Road on June 20, where they saw that a white Chevy Aveo had struck the rear of a black BMW and left the road, according to Lake Forest Police. The BMW driver was uninjured.

The Chevy's driver, 32-year-old Hallur A. Hallison, smelled of alcohol and could not explain what had happened, according to police. 

Shortly after police arrived on the scene, the Chevy caught fire. While officers and firefighters attended to the burning car, Hallison fell asleep in the rear of a police squad car.

An ambulance took Hallison to Lake Forest Hospital, where he was examined and later taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol. He had a blood alcohol concentration of .209. 

He was processed and released with a July court date.
