Car Runs Down Traffic Sign, Vehicle Pulls Sledders Through Parking Lot

AMBULANCE ASSIST

Lake Bluff police assisted the Lake County Sherriff’s office with a report that a person with labored breathing had collapsed at the gas pump at 9:48 a.m. Dec. 20 on the 2800 block of North Waukegan Road. The person was taken to the hospital by Lake Forest paramedics. Officers checked the gas station’s video footage and confirmed that the person collapsed unexpectedly.

An elderly person slipped on ice and injured his back and hip at 5:21 a.m. Dec. 20 at the north end of the train depot. Lake Bluff Public Works employees salted the area while paramedics from Lake Forest and Lake Bluff responded. The man, who was conscious and alert but could not sit up, was transported to Lake Forest Hospital.

CITIZEN ASSISTS

Officers reponsed to a report of a reckless driver weaving on the roadway at 9:44 p.m. Dec. 13 on northbound Route 41 at Route 176. The driver, who was elderly and confused, thought he was near his home in Bellwood. An officer contacted the man’s granddaughter and asked her to pick him up at the police station. The man was ticked for driving with one headlight, driving on a cancelled license and driving without insurance. 

Officers responded at 12:36 p.m. Dec. 11 to the train deport for a report of a woman who appeared to be homeless. The women told the officers she was trying to get into a shelter in North Chicago. Upon request, police drove her to the shelter.

FIRE/FIRE ALARMS

An officer responded Dec. 26 to a fire alarm at the postal annex at 35 N. Sokie Highway. Firefighters on the scene were notificed that employees had accidentally turned on the water sprinkler system.

An officer responded to the 900 block of Sherwood Drive for a report of an extinguished vehicle fire at 10:24 a.m. Dec. 16. The driver told police the vehicle caught fire under the dashboard while it was left running unattended for 15 minutes. Firefighters determined the fire had been fully extinguished.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A “no trucks allowed”  traffic sign was found damaged at 4:32 a.m. Dec. 24 just east of Sheridan Road and the West Scranton cutoff. Debris on the road indicated the sign was run over by a dark silver or gray vehicle. Police did not locate the vehicle.

TRESPASSING

An officer responded to a report of a white truck pulling people on a sled at 2:24 p.m. Dec. 15 in a parking lot on Carriage Park. The officer located the vehicle and the driver admitted to pulling sleds with the vehicle. The officer issued a trespassing warning and advised the people to leave the property.
