Driver of SUV Trapped Under Trailer Charged with DUI

SUV trapped under semi leads to DUI charge
The police and fire departments responded to the intersection of Route 41 and Old Elm Road at 6 p.m. Feb. 15 for an accident where an SUV was trapped under a tractor trailer. The driver, John A. McKinven, 25, of Lake Bluff, was extricated and taken to the hospital. Police said he smelled strongly of alcholol and witnesses said he had been driving at a high speed before hitting the trailer. He told police he had been drinking prior to the crash and was charged with DUI. He was released on $3,000 bond and given a March 11 court date.

Police responded to a home in the 0 block of Sheridan Road at 3:30 a.m. Feb. 16 for a report of an unknown person who was ringing the doorbell. They found Francis R. Fiore, 20, of Lake Forest there, who admitted he had been drinking. He was cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor and taken home. He has an administrative hearing scheduled for March 12.

An officer stopped Darlandra E. Taylor,42, of Winchester, for a traffic violation Feb. 22 at 11:45 p.m. at Route 41 and Westleigh Road and found she was driving with a suspended license. She was released on $1,500 bond with a April 1 court date.
Drug charges
Police say Jessica A. Velazquez, 19, of Waukegan, drove through a red light Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. at Route 41 and Route 60. She and a 17-year-old passenger from Waukegan were taken into custody after police found cannabis and drug paraphernalia and both were cited for unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. They were released on $120 bond and given a March 18 court date.
