How Many DUI Arrests Were Made in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff in 2012?

The Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists has released the results of its annual Illinois DUI Arrest Survey. Read on to learn how many drunk driving arrests were made in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff last year.

The results of the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists (AAIM) annual DUI Arrest Survey showed there were 18 DUI arrests in Lake Bluff last year, placing the village at No. 140 on a list of 158 towns that provided results.

The results also show there were 1.29 DUI arrests made per Lake Bluff officer in 2012, out of 14 sworn officers.

The City of Lake Forest did not participate in the AAIM survey, but information provided by the police department show there were 56 DUI arrests last year and two DUI arrests per officer, out of 28 sworn officers assigned to patrol.

Those arrested are the fortunate ones, says AAIM

"One reason AAIM continues to survey and report the number of impaired driving arrests throughout Illinois (is) because traffic safety advocates believe that drunk drivers who are arrested are the fortunate ones," said Marti Belluschi, AAIM board vice president and crash survivor. "In our impaired driving prevention programs, we always remind people that if they are driving drunk, they are lucky if it is a cop that stops them, rather than a tree, another car or a small child."

Rockford ranked No. 1 in terms of drunk driving arrests, with 686.

In terms of counties, Cook County ranked first, with 430 arrests. The Lake County Sheriff's Office made 337 DUI arrests in 2012.

"Departments that make more DUI arrests do not necessarily pinpoint more drunk drivers in Illinois communities," said Rita Kreslin, AAIM executive director. "It does indicate additional active enforcement in municipalities and counties, which aides in targeting DUI offenders."
