Update: Lake Forest High School Teens Struck Head-on Returning from Prom

Taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries; Highwood driver faces multiple charges.

 

A Highwood man faces multiple charges, including fleeing the scene of an accident, following a head-on collision with two teens driving home from the school's prom at 1:10 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Green Bay and Thorn Valley roads in Lake Bluff.

The two 17-year-olds, a female from and a male from , were taken to with non-life threatening injuries. Their status was not available as of 9:30 a.m. Sunday, according to

According to Anne Whipple, director of communications at Lake Forest High School, both teens were released from the hospital and are home.

Rigoberto Cruz, 39, fled the scene of the accident on foot after his Ford Explorer struck the teens' Infiniti G35. Cruz was later found and charged with driving under the influence, cocaine possession, driving while his license was revoked and operating an uninsured vehicle, according to Lake Bluff Police.

Additional charges are pending as the case is reviewed by the Lake County State's Attorney Office, according to Lake Bluff Police.

Lake Forest High School held its prom Saturday night at the Chicago Marriott, and students were bused down from the high school and returned there afterward.
