Lake Forest Police Looking for Suspect in ATM Skimming Fraud

From December of last year through February, a skimming device was allegedly attached to the lobby ATM at the Lake Forest Northern Trust Branch, according to police.

The information below comes from the Lake Forest Police Department.

The Lake Forest Police Department, in cooperation with Northern Trust Bank, is currently investigating a fraud involving multiple customer accounts.

It is believed that from approximately December 2012 through February 2013 a skimming device was attached to the lobby ATM at the Northern Trust Branch located at 265 East Deerpath, Lake Forest. During this time, it appears the device was used to record the account numbers and/or PIN numbers of customers using this ATM.

Subsequently, the compromised account numbers were used to make fraudulent withdrawals at numerous Chicago‐area ATMs. The Lake Forest Police Department has begun taking reports from individual Lake Forest residents who have uncovered evidence offraud in their account records.

Northern Trust Bank is currently proactively contacting possible victims. Northern Trust customers may contact arepresentative of the bank with questions.The exact number of customers affected and the potential dollar loss involved is undetermined at this time.
