Landscaper's Son Reports Cougar Sighting in Lake Bluff

Described as bigger than the family dog.

OK, who has been feeding their cat Miracle Grow?

An officer responded to the 300 block of Wimbledon Court at 1:30 p.m. May 5 for a report of landscaper who observed an animal run into the woods that looked like a cougar.

The officer met with the landscaper, who said his son was cutting the grass in the backyard of a house and heard a loud growl, and when he turned he observed a large animal jump into the trees and run toward the railroad tracks.

The animal was described as having a long tail about three feet long with short hair, and curled at the end. The body was larger than the family dog that weighed 120 pounds.

The officer checked the area, but found no signs of a cougar.

Wow, this is why we needed some sort of action when the cougar sightings were happening around last Halloween. This definitely needs to be taken more seriously.

I lived in the high Sierra mountains for almost 20 years above 7,600 feet. Bears, bobcats, mountain lions (cougars), If there was a cougar roaming the area, for sure there would be obvious signs of their hunting. Farmers would be complaining about young cattle being taken. My experience has been that the lions only eat a few times a month. Invite an experienced person to make a determination. When I would go hiking in the mountains I would draw a pair of eyes on a paper plate and using a rubber and put it on my head like a pair of eyes looking backwards. Cats prefer to attack from the rear and the fake eyes deter them. Does it really work? I was never attacked and none of the Washoe Indians who taught me that was. Happy Mother's Day
