Man Gets 12 Years for Denny's Parking Lot Rape

A native of Zambia in the U.S. on a visa will go to prison for 12 years for sexually assaulting a woman in the parking lot of the Highland Park Denny's in June 2011.

A Waukegan man who was found guilty in February of a sexually assaulting a disabled Evanston woman in the parking lot of the Highland Park Denny's has been sentenced.

Nsoni Mpulamasaka, 27, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and will be turned over to the Attorney General for deportationproceedings after he has served his time, reported the Lake County News-Sun.

Defense attorneys had argued the June 16, 2011, encounter in the victim's car after she and Mpulamasaka spent the night performing karaoke at the Lantern in Lake Forest was consensual, Patch reported.

Following the assault, the woman drove herself to Evanston Hospital, where she was treated for injuries, according to theHighland Park Police.

Mpulamasaka, a native of Zambia, was in the United States on a student visa to study medicine, reported Patch.

The defense is expected to appeal the verdict and file a motion to reconsider the sentence, reported the Chicago Tribune. The next court date is July 2.
