Police: Woman Hits Stop Sign, Charged with DUI

Also in this Lake Forest police blotter, a man was arrested for stealing from multiple people after police reviewed security footage.

Driver hits stops sign, charged with DUI

Police responded to a report of a car that hit a stop sign Feb. 1 at 3:30 a.m. at Route 41 and Old Elm Road. The driver, Sharon R. Estrada, 49, of Round Lake, smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted to drinking, police said. They learned that her license was also suspended from a previous DUI charge. She was charged with felony DUI and driving with a suspended license and DUI. She was held overnight, released on $50,000 bond and given a Feb. 14 court date.

Carlos H. Castillo, 22, of North Chicago, was stopped by police for driving 70 mph in a 45 mph zone and swerving across the line marker. Police said he admitted to drinking and failed field sobriety tests. There was also an open alcohol container and cannabis in his car, police said. A breath sample later showed his blood alcohol concentration at .132. He was charged with DUI and unlawful possession of cannabis, released on a $3,000 bond and given a March 25 court date.

Theft arrest

Several employees at a business in the 1900 block of Field Court reported thefts. After watching security footage, police identified Taylor R. Dove, of Palatine, as the offender and found several of the stolen items in his car. Police said Dove admitted to stealing the items. Additional stolen items as well as prescription and no-prescription narcotic pills and cannabis were also discovered both on Dove and at his home. He was charged with felony theft, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of cannabis, and held overnight. He was released on $25,000 bond with a March 3 court date.

Domestic battery

Police received multiple 911 calls from a home in the 100 block of South Breckenridge at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 4. They spoke with everyone home and saw signs of physical injury. Michael J. Koob, 64, of Lake Forest was arrested for domestic battery. He was held overnight, released on $25,000 bond and given a March 4 court date.
