Resident Pleads Not Guilty to Punching Man at Costco

Bruce Mortini of Lake Forest entered a plea of not guilty through his attorney at an arraignment Thursday.

A Lake Forest man charged with four counts of aggravated battery after police said he punched a 61-year-old man at the Mettawa Costco on March 5 has pleaded not guilty, reported the Lake County News-Sun.

The arraignment for Bruce Mordini, 48, of the 400 block of Ridge Road, was held Thursday. He is due back in court May 14 while the trial is scheduled for June 17, according to the News-Sun.

Mordini remains free having posted 10 percent of a $10,000 bond.

In March, Patch reported the victim drove his vehicle to the store's front door to load groceries when Mordini, a former Highland Park High School basketball star, began yelling and accusing the man and his wife of nearly striking him. The incident escalated to Mordini allegedly striking the man twice, once  in front of Costco employees.

Mordini stands 6 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds, while the victim is 5 feet, 8 inches.
