Resolution Appears Possible in Case of Former Bears’ Quarterback Bobby Douglass

State's Attorney wants to consider victim's attitude.

Former Chicago Bears quarterback appears closer to settling trespass charges against him, according to statements made by his attorney Wednesday in Lake County Criminal Court in Waukegan.

Lake Forest police originally arrested Douglass, a Lake Forest resident, on April 13 after he reportedly barged into the home of a Lake Forest woman who has been in an on-and-off relationship with the former NFL star. He was charged with criminal trespass to a residence and criminal trespass to property. He is free on $10,000 bond.

“They (the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office) want to talk to the people involved to see if we can resolve the case,” Douglass' lawyer Pat Quilty said. He indicated if no common ground is found, the case will go to trial.

Deputy Lake County State’s Attorney Steve Scheller told Patch on Tuesday that his office needed additional time to gauge the victim’s feelings about an end to the case short of a trial.

“We want time to talk to the victim and see how she feels about this,” Scheller said.

Douglass has yet to be indicted on formal charges. As a result he has not entered a plea in the case.

Douglass was not present in court. Judge Raymond P. Collins continued the case until 9 a.m. July 21 at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan.
