Student Driver Hits Mailboxes

ALCOHOL

Alexander Mackenzie, 26, of 123 Skokie Highway, Lake Bluff, was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage, avoiding a traffic control device, expired registration, operating an uninsured vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia at 12:58 a.m. Aug. 27 on Washington Avenue and Route 41. Police said they observed him weaving in his lane while driving a motorized scooter on Route 176. He refused field sobriety tests and he was in possession of a glass smoking pipe, police said. His court date is Sept. 13 in Waukegan.

ANIMALS

A Lake Bluff postal carrier reported being bitten by a large white dog at noon Aug. 23 on the 30 block of East North Avenue. The victim drove himself to a hospital, police said.

CURFEW VIOLATION

Three adults and two juveniles received citations for violating curfew after police found them at Lillian Dells at 8:02 p.m. Aug. 27. The area is subject to beach hours, which are from sunrise to sunset. All five were given $75 fines.

DRUGS

A citizen turned in cannabis smoking pipe at 4:05 p.m. Aug. 22 that they found at Lillian Dells. The pipe will be turned in for destruction.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

An officer on patrol on Aug. 28 found two mailboxes that had been knocked off a post at 8:35 p.m. on the 29700 block of Environ Circle. The homeowner told the officer that a teenager who was learning to drive had hit them. The homeowner and the driver’s parent worked out the restitution.

WARRANT

Police responded to a report of an intoxicated man at 8:46 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Lake Bluff train depot. Officers said they observed the man fall onto the railroad tracks. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital. Upon his release, police arrested him on an unrelated warrant for failure to appear in court and transported him to Lake County Jail.
