Two Lake Bluff Burglary Suspects Apprehended in Waukegan

Caught burglarizing Waukegan home last week.

Two suspects who have been at large for a have been arrested, according to a press release Tuesday from the Lake Bluff Police Department.

Hassan Grant, 21, 1458 S. Canal, Chicago, and Jerrell L. Johnson, 21, 3210 W. Arthington, Chicago, were arrested on April 26 by Waukegan police during a home burglary in progress.

The two suspects were part of a home burglary gone awry in the 300 block of North Avenue in Lake Bluff on April 7. A third suspect, Lamonte D. Coleman, Jr., 23, 30827 Wilson Road, Beach Park, was apprehended by Lake Bluff police during an attempted getaway in a truck.

A Lake Bluff officer had responded to the area and upon arrival observed a green 1996 GMC pick-up truck leaving the area. Once the occupants of the pick-up observed the officer, the occupants stopped the vehicle on East Scranton Avenue near Glen Avenue, and fled. The officer was able to immediately apprehend Coleman while the other two, Grant and Johnson, fled north on foot, according to the police.

A unsuccessful search of the area was conducted by officers from  Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, and Highland Park Police, as well as a Lake County Canine Unit and detectives.

Further investigation revealed the home on East North Avenue was burglarized.  Various electronics and other personal items were taken. Officers reported finding the items that were taken inside the pick-up truck. In addition, it was discovered the pick-up truck was stolen from the 1700 block of Monroe Street in Waukegan on April 1, according to police.

Grant and Johnson have been charged with residential burglary, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and theft by Lake Bluff Police. They are being held in Lake County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is pending.

Lake Bluff Police said the three suspects are not involved in any other burglaries in Lake Bluff.
