Lake Forest police received a call at 8:21 a.m. about a swimmer in distress, according to Deputy Chief Karl Walldorf. Lake Forest police and fire crews responded immediately to the beach at 501 North Forest Drive, to begin searching for the woman, who was no longer visible.

In addition to the Lake Forest Fire Department’s boat, 10 more boats and 30 divers from 25 other fire departments responded, Walldorf said.

The body was located during a sonar scan of the water just before 11 a.m., he said. The Lake County Coroner’s Office is now seeking to determine her identity, which first responders were unable to do.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, according to TribLocal.

ABC7 is reporting that a woman's shoes and sweater were found on shore.

Walldorf said the investigation is ongoing.
