$1.6M Allocated for Lake County Road Construction

Gov. Pat Quinn announced Sept. 5 capital investments of more than $1.6 million for construction projects in Lake County. The projects are part of Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.

“These construction projects will improve a key Waukegan Road bridge in Park City and roads in Barrington,” Quinn said. “They will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy as well.”

A bridge carrying Illinois Route 43, otherwise known as Waukegan Road, over U.S. Route 41 in Park City will be replaced for $1,390,813 by Areatha Construction Co., Inc. of Streamwood, the lowest of five bidders. The Illinois Department of Transportation will manage the project.

Work on Waverly Road in Barrington will be completed from Exmoor Avenue to Prospect Avenue, and on Summit Street from South Street to Illinois Avenue. The project includes new sidewalks, storm sewer modification, retaining wall installation and curb and gutter. Aliance Contractors, Inc. of Woodstock was the lowest of ten bidders at $280,057.

“These projects will improve the existing infrastructure of the region, as well as provide additional economic development in the area,” State Sen. Terry Link (D-Waukegan) said. “These projects will ensure not only roads and bridges are repaired, but smaller necessities such as storm sewers and curbing are not in disrepair.”

These projects are part of Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
