The information below comes from the City of Lake Forest.

Residents of the City of Lake Forest and the Village of Lake Bluff are invited to attend a Workshop to learn about the Emerald Ash Borer on Saturday, June 1 from 9-11 a.m. at Gorton Community Center.  The Workshop has been planned to supplement the Resident Guide which was mailed to all residents of Lake Forest in April.

Tens of thousands of ash trees are at high risk of infestation by the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), and residents need to prepare.  At this workshop, attendees will learn:

  • How to identify an ash tree
  • What the EAB looks like
  • The signs and symptoms of EAB
  • What treatment options are available
  • The environmental losses that can be expected
  • Replanting/”regreening” opportunities
  • How the City and Village will be managing ash trees on public property

The Workshop’s schedule includes opening remarks by The City of Lake Forest followed by the keynote speaker, The Davey Resource Group, and concluding with break-out sessions to answer individual questions.  EAB has been likened to a “Natural Disaster,” with infestations in Illinois as well as Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio.  The scope of this problem could cost several billion dollars nationwide if not addressed properly.  State, federal and local agencies have made EAB a top priority; however, homeowners can also help by carefully monitoring their ash trees for signs and symptoms of EAB and choose a management plan that best suits their needs.
