Lake Forest Schedules Fire Hydrant Flushing

The Lake Forest Water/Sewer staff will flush the City’s fire hydrants to remove accumulated sediment build-up throughout April and early May.

Residents may experience lower than normal water pressure and a short period of water discoloration during flushing and shortly thereafter. Though the water may be discolored, it is safe to drink.

However, until the water runs clear, it is advisable to avoid washing clothes, especially white fabrics. If any rust stains appear on your wet laundry, do not dry your clothes.

Call the Water/Sewer Section at (847) 810-3570 or (847) 810-3571, and arrangements will be made to resolve the situation.

Once the hydrants in the neighborhood have been flushed, residents should run cold water either from the basement’s utility sink or from a hose outside. This will flush any rusty water out of the water service line. Never run warm or hot water immediately after a hydrant has been flushed, as this could lead to sediment getting into the hot water heater.

The schedule is as follows:

• April 2-13: South of Everett Road to south City limits west of Route 41***

• April 16-20: West of Route 41 from Route 60 to Everett Road

• April 23-27: West of Route 41 from the north City limits to Route 60

• April 30 to May 4: Between Western Avenue (including Western Avenue) and Route 41 from the north City limits to Old Elm Road

• May 7-11: East of Western Avenue from the north City limits to Westleigh Road, including Villa Turicum.

** In this area,  directional flushing will be performed where sections of water main will be isolated to maximize flushing. Residents will be notified 24 hours in advance of any water outages in this area.
