Dold Will Run In Remapped 10th

New Congressional districts approved by General Assembly; sent to Gov. Quinn.

Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth), the current 10th Congressional District Congressman, will run for reelection in his newly drawn constituency, according to his District Director Kelley Folino.

“When he wins he will move into the new 10th,” Folino told Patch Tuesday afternoon.

Dold’s current home in Kenilworth is located in the reconfigured 9th Congressional District, currently represented by Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston).

The 9th and 10th districts are two of many undergoing significant change as the state performs its decennial process of redefining legislative districts. The proposed map was revealed by the Illinois Senate May 27 and finalized over Memorial Day weekend. It was approved yesterday by the Illinois General Assembly and sent to Gov. Pat Quinn for his signature.

The new 10th District contains all of Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Highland Park, Libertyville, Deerfield, Libertyville and Grayslake as well as parts of Glenview, Northbrook, Buffalo Grove and Morton Grove.

The remainder of Glenview, Northbrook, Morton Grove and the extreme southeastern portion of Glencoe are in the 9th along with all of Wilmette, Kenilworth and Winnetka.

Roughly, the portion of Glenview west of Patriot Boulevard south to Lake Street and then on a direct line following Rolling Pass south are in the 10th. The rest of Glenview is now in the 9th.

The portions of Northbrook generally north of Cherry Lane and west of Shermer Road remain in the 10th while the rest move to the 9th.

In Morton Grove, the portion south of Dempster Street is still part of the 9th District while everything north of Dempster is now contained in the 10th.

The entire Lake County portion of Buffalo Grove is in the 10th as well as most of the Cook County section of the village. The Cook County area of Buffalo Grove roughly east of Elmhurst Road is still in the 10th while the section to the west is in the newly drawn 14th District.

Current 8th District Rep. Joe Walsh (R-McHenry) and Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Winfield), who represents the 14th, live in the new newly drawn area. Neither has said if or where they will run.

Two Democrats, Ilya Sheyman of Waukegan and Brad Schneider of Deerfield have already announced they are running in the reconstructed 10th. Between now and the petition deadline this fall, more candidates may join the race for 10th District.
