Gov. Quinn Signs New Teen Voting Law at Stevenson High School

Illinois is now the largest of 21 states that allow 17-year-olds to vote in the primary.

Gov. Pat Quinn recently approved a law championed by a Stevenson High School teacher that allows residents who will turn 18 during the time between a primary and general election to vote in the primary at the age of 17--this makes Illinois the largest of 21 states that allow 17-year-olds to influence the primary, Lake Forester reported.

Andrew Conneen, co-sponsor of the school’s Political Action Club has pushed the “Suffrage at 17” act for years and said the balance between hard work, wise strategizing and luck helped navigate the bill all the way past the Governor’s desk, the website reported.
