Illinois Sen. Mark Kirk is headed to the home of a family member today (May 3) to continue his recovery from a stroke , according to a statement by his family as reported by the website Politico.com.
According to Politico, the family's statement read, “We are happy to say that after suffering a stroke in January, Mark has progressed to the point where he can move home with his family. He will continue to work on his recovery as an out-patient at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He has begun a rigorous walking study program to further his mobility and independence while maintaining his schedule with staff.
We are grateful for the wonderful doctors and personnel at the RIC for their care of Mark, and to the residents of Illinois who have given him privacy and time to heal. We also thank everyone who has shared their prayers and wishes for his return to the U.S. Senate as soon as possible,” the statement added.
Politico reported Kirk, 52, will stay at the homes of various family members.
However, the website added that Kirk had a lift installed at his Highland Park home to navigate stairs, and he’s using a cane for assistance.

Kirk’s office released a photo of the senator April 24 for the first time since he suffered a stroke. There were concerns that the left side of Kirk's body would be partially paralyzed, according to Politico. His rehab has focused on tasks such as climbing stairs, walking hallways and getting in and out of cars.
