Lake Forest Approves Master Bike Plan

The City of Lake Forest is taking measures to make the community more bicycle-accessible.

The City of Lake Forest hopes to become leaders in creating a bike-friendly community through Monday's approval of a master bike plan.

Plans call for establishing a designated east-west connecting path across the city that would provide bicyclists safe passage to forest preserve trails on the west side, reported the Chicago Tribune. Another concept is to connect existing local and regional bike paths.

The city council is also considering building a bike shelter at the downtown Metra station where riders could rest, get warm or catch a train, reported the Tribune. In 2011, the city was awarded a $47,000 grant for this purpose.

The east side Metra station has also been undergoing other renovations, reported Patch.
