Lake Forest Bans All Lawn Watering

Failure of citizens to obey odd-even mandate prompts drastic action. Boil order may be next.

With Lake Forest homeowners failing to obey the City’s lawn watering restriction, a complete ban on all sprinkling activities has been imposed today throughout Lake Forest, according to a news release from the City.

“In order to avoid enacting a boil order for potable water, all outside irrigation and lawn sprinkling systems must no longer be used until further notification,” the City said in the release.

Until today, sprinkling was prohibited between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. with watering allowed at all other hours for people with even street addresses on even days of the month and on odd days of the month for those with odd street numbers. That restriction was imposed Sunday.

The City took action today because high algae levels have cut the amount of water Lake Forest is able to purify in half. Then, people disregarded the restrictions put in place Sunday, according to the release.

The algae levels do not affect water quality, according to Public Works Director Michael Thomas. “Residents should be reminded that algae does not affect water quality after the water plant’s filtering process takes place,” he said in the release.

Many of the heavy water users in Lake Forest are homeowners with automatic sprinkling systems.
