Lake Forest Preservation Foundation Hosts Historic House Tour Sunday

Program focuses on history of prominent Lake Forest architecture from 1860.

Lake Forest Preservation Foundation will honor the City of Lake Forest in celebrating its 150th anniversary by hosting a Founders Lecture at 1:45 p.m. Sunday (April 17) in the Lily Reid Holt Chapel at .

Susan Benjamin, Benjamin Historic Certifications, and Arthur H. Miller, Jr., Lake Forest College archivist of special collections and past-president of the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation, will present a program called "The History of Prominent Lake Forest Architecture from 1860."

A special Founders House tour and reception will begin at 2:30 p.m. following the program.

The fee for the tour and reception is $45 per person for Preservation Foundation members and $55 for non-members. Four rarely visited 150-year-old houses will be on the tour. The tour begins at the Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel. Included in the fee will be a wine and cheese reception.

Tickets and the locations of the four houses can be picked up beginning at noon Sunday at the chapel vestibule. Free parking is available at Lake Forest College for the program, tour, and reception. This is a walking tour to the houses and reception.

The four historic houses will receive a special Founders Award for efforts in preserving these stately 1860 structures. The founders who built these homes include Harvey Thompson, the first mayor of Lake Forest; DeVillo R. Holt, who sat on the first board of trustees for Lake Forest University (now Lake Forest College); and two other prominent founders whose homes will be on the tour.
