Lake Forest To Hike Water Rates

Residents will pay three percent more for water.

An increase of three percent in the rate Lake Forest residents will pay for water was approved Monday by the Lake Forest City Council on a 6-0 vote.

The rate hike represents a three percent increase over last year when a 1.5 percent upward change was implemented, according to Finance Director Elizabeth Holleb. This is done to cover anticipated cost and capital improvement increases.

“No property taxes are used (for water). We use a five-year methodology to keep up with operations and capital needs to meet our sustainability,” Holleb said explaining the water program for Lake Forest pays for itself. “This is based on average consumption.”

A hypothetical family of four using normal summer landscaping can except to pay an additional $31.82 a year, according to Holleb. A single resident not doing summer landscaping will pay approximately $6.14 more a year.
