Partnership allows city to gain savings.

Get ready for it.

The Chicago area always has been known for having two seasons: winter and construction.

Although winter didn't necessarily live up to previous expectations, Lake Forest residents can take heart in knowing road construction will be around for roughly four months starting May 1.

The city will begin the second year of a planned pavement rehabilitation program to resurface the city’s streets gradually over the next five years.

The Lake Forest City Council recently approved the second phase. Portions of 15 streets throughout Lake Forest have been chosen for resurfacing over the spring and summer months.

The budget for the 2012 resurfacing program is estimated at $2 million, and will be funded through motor fuel tax funds.

In an effort to offset some of the costs of the project, has partnered with Highland Park, and Lincolnshire. The three towns were picked because their populations are similar to Lake Forest and they share common borders. Lake Bluff is a new addition this year.

The partnership allowed Lake Forest to secure a winning bid under the budgeted amount by approximately $140,000, according to City Engineer Ramesh Kanapareddy.

The savings allowed Ahwahnee Lane to be added to this year's program, Kanapareddy said.

Last year, Lake Forest managed the project. This year it's Highland Park's turn.

Here is a list of the streets to be resurfaced. See the attached PDF to view the complete five-year plan.
