On Thursday, November 21, 7-8:30 p.m. at Gorton Community Center, 400 E. Illinois Road, Fourth Ward Alderman Bob Palmer will lead a conversation about “Neighbor Disputes:  Rights, Resources and Resolution.”  Alderman Palmer, a former Chair of the City’s Legal Committee, received his law degree from the University of Notre Dame and currentlyserves as a Director and Secretary of the Chicago Crime Commission.

Although neighbor relations are usually amicable, occasionally issues arise over such things as:

·        FencesNoise
  • Pets
  • Parking
  • Home Improvements
  • Landscaping
  • Rental  Houses

In each of these cases, attendees will learn about a homeowner’s responsibilities and rights, as well as what the City can (or cannot) do to resolve disputes with neighbors.  Participants will be informed as to applicable ordinances, as well as alternative means of resolving disputes in the absence of City action. These meetings are not televised and no decisions are made.  The purpose is to collectively develop an enhanced clarity of each issue, its intricacies, and a consensus on how to proceed.  Interested participants do not need to make reservations.
