Alumni Reunion Set for June 11 At Church of St. Mary

Students pitch in on Earth Day collections.

This spring, the School of St. Mary held several fundraisers to help the people of Japan in the wake of the earthquake. To help students gain a better understanding of the culture of Japan, Nicole Moward-Nassar, vice president of a Japanese firm, offered to come to both the upper and primary grade campuses to talk to students about Japan and its people. Nassar, who has children that attend the primary grade center, was accompanied by her Japanese colleague, Mayumi. During their presentation, students enjoyed a slideshow about Japan, learned how to make origami hats, and were able to ask question of Mrs. Nassar and Mayumi.  After these presentations, students at the Upper Grade Campus held a Walk-a-thon to raise money for Japan.  Primary Grade Campus students brought in donations to have their names displayed on a giant Japanese flag.  Together the students raised over $3,000 to be given to Catholic Relief for Japan.

This spring, St. Mary's second grade Brownie Troop 40544 visited the Lake Forest Bank and Trust to learn about money and banking. The girls and their troop leaders went behind the scenes and were wowed by the money-counting machinery and by the bank's vault with its 20,000-pound door.  The Brownies earned badges on money for taking part in this trip.
