Boys' Lacrosse Runs Past Mundelein; Volleyball Tops Lakes, Softball Suffers Tough Loss

Early deficit too much for Scouts baseball to overcome.

BOYS' LACROSSE

Date: April 13

The Final Score: Lake Forest 15, Mundelein 4

Scouts’ Star Performer: Johnny Poth scored five left-handed goals at attack.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Matt Sapp, Alex Watkins, Jack Wright, Chris Janeck and George Stamelos also scored. Janeck, Stamelos and Ricky Kawala created many scoring opportunities. Sam Moran was everywhere on the field, helping out at attack, midfield and defense.

Who’s Next: Lake Forest visits St. Charles at noon Saturday (April 16).

The Bottom Line: The Scout defense of Jason Handler and Joey Losacco created many turnovers, and Parker Stride establishing a physical presence. James Phelps made some key saves in goal.

 

BASEBALL

Date: April 13

The Final Score: Mundelein 12, Lake Forest 5

Scouts’ Star Performer: Chris Godinez and Matt Lawrence each had two hits. One of Lawrence's hits was a double, and he drove in four runs.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Jacob Hellinga also drove in a run. Zach Lucas and Brett Bartuch had the other hits.

Who’s Next: Lake Forest visits Lakes High School in Lake Villa at 4:30 p.m. Friday (April 15).

The Bottom Line: Lake Forest was down 7-0 before answering. Though they cut down on the strikeouts (5), they only had six hits.

 

GIRLS' SOFTBALL

Date: April 13

The Final Score: Mundelein 13, Lake Forest 1

Scouts’ Star Performer: In the first inning, Cat Perino hit an RBI double that hit the right-center field fence on a fly.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Mary Rose DeYoung performed well offensively and ran out a close play at first base. She provided the sole run for Scouts.  

Who's Next: The Scouts return home for a cross-conference game against Lakes High School at 4:30 p.m. Friday (April 15).  

The Bottom Line: Lake Forest did not step off the bus ready to play, but the Mustangs came ready to hit the ball. The Scouts had many opportunities to make plays, but could not step up.

BOYS' VOLLEYBALL

Date: April 13

The Final Score: Lake Forest defeats Lakes Community 22-25, 25-20, 25-13

Scouts’ Star Performer: Kris Hawkins hit a team-high 13 kills, had 2 blocks, and 1 ace.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Henry Lamp had a team-high 4 blocks, 9 kills, and 1 ace. Kyle Moore split time between setting and hitting, registering 8 kills, 8 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 aces. Andrew Carr also had 23 assists.

Who’s Next: Lake Forest plays at the Lake County Invite on Friday and Saturday, April 15-16.

The Bottom Line: Starting Libero Eric Decker was out with the flu. Lake Forest was completely out of sync in Game 1, but after some tweaks to the lineup, the Scouts got back on track and improved to 2-0 in North Suburban Conference play.
