Boys' Volleyball Knocks off Libertyville; Boys' Tennis Blanks ZeeBees

Girls' Track nabs 2nd in league meet; Baseball drops one-run decision to Zion-Benton, Softball fairs better against Lake Zurich.

Date: May 5

The Final Score: Scouts finish second at the North Suburban Conference meet behind Lake Zurich, 100-77. Vernon Hills (68) took third and Warren (62) and Libertyville (49.5) rounded out  the top five.

Scouts’ Star Performer:  Carolina Carmichael earned all-conference honors in each of the four event she competed in, including pole vault, 300 meter hurdles, 100 hurdles and long jump.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Helen Schlachtenhaufen placed first in the 3,200 meter run, fourth in the 1600 and helped the 1,600 relay to third.

Who's Next: The Scouts head to Sectionals May 13 at Buffalo Grove High School.

The Bottom Line: The Scouts went into the meet as underdogs after last Thursday’s County meet. They knew that Lake Zurich was an exceptionally strong and the Scouts needed the Bears to falter in some way in order to win.

 

GIRLS' SOFTBALL

Date: May 5

The Final Score: Lake Zurich 7, Lake Forest 3

Scouts’ Star Performer: Natalia Murphy cranked out two doubles and drove in a run with one.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Cat Perino and Shawdee Sariri each had RBIs. Lauren Johnson made numerous plays at second base. Maddie Philipp-Knesley pitched a solid four innings.

Who's Next: The Scouts will take on Glenbrook South at 4:30 p.m. Friday (May 6)in Lake Forest.

The Bottom Line: Lake Forest, though losing to the Bears by 10 just a few days ago, came out ready to give Lake Zurich a fight. The Scouts were much more prepared this time around, and were able to hang with a highly competitive team.

BOYS' VOLLEYBALL

Date: May 4

The Final Score: Lake Forest defeats Libertyville, 25-21, 25-21

Scouts’ Star Performer: Henry Lamp led the way with 10 kills, 4 service points, and 2 blocks.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Kyle Moore had 9 digs, 4 kills, and a block. Michael Simet also had 3 blocks.

Who’s Next: Lake Forest plays at Palatine at 6 p.m. Monday (May 9).

The Bottom Line: The Scouts continued from their last game with improved serve-receive and defense. Lake Forest was able to put Libertyville out of sync with strong offensive play, along with well-placed serving. Lake Forest improved their overall record to 12-13.

The Final Score: Zion-Benton 3, Lake Forest 2

Scouts’ Star Performer: Chris Godinez went 3-for-4, scored a run, stole 2 bases and drove in one run with a double.

Other Notable Scout Performances: Jack Wold went 2-for-3. Matt Lawrence, Zach Lucas and Tyson Dethlefsen also had a hit each.

Who’s Next: Lake Forest hosts Lake Zurich at 4:30 p.m. Friday (May 6).

The Bottom Line: Lake Forest held a 2-1 lead after the third inning, but Zion-Benton received a bases-loaded, two-out single to win the game in the seventh.
