The Final Score: 1. New Trier 144.4, 2. Lake Forest 142.45, 3. Carmel 142.425, 4. Stevenson 141.25, 5. Warren 135.275.
Scouts’ Star Performer: Kylie Carlson finished second in the all around competition (37.85). She also took second on the balance beam (9.475), tied for third in the vault (9.55), took fourth in floor exercise (9.4) and tied for fourth on the uneven parallel bars (9.425). She will compete as an individual on all five events.
Other Notable Scout Performance: Kat McKeon qualified for the State Meet in bars, beam and all around.
Who’s Next: The Scouts compete in the State Meet Friday and Saturday in Palatine.
The Bottom Line: Carlson and McKeon led the way as Lake Forest grabbed an at large berth to the State Meet for the fourth year in a row. This year the Scouts will not be looking up at three-time defending state champion Carmel. They nosed out the Corsairs for the last spot. This is also Carlson’s fourth consecutive appearance where she finished second on floor each time. McKeon is making her third trip. Coach Robin Straus gave credit to the effort of Carly Schmidt, Brittany Moccia, Laura Blake and Tabby Jeffers for boosting the team effort in the narrow win.
