Catching up with Lake Forest Field Hockey Player Morgan Dever

Her brother Bo may know football, but Morgan Dever knows something about another sport - field hockey.

Only a junior in high school, Morgan Dever has already decided where she's going to college. and her football-playing father David, she will take her talents to Ann Arbor in the fall of 2013 to play for Michigan.

An elite field hockey player, the 5-foot-9 Dever has made the Junior Olympic Team three times -- 2008, 2009 and 2010 -- and this year was selected to the USA Elite Futures team.

Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Patch caught up with Dever and asked her about her decision to be a Wolverine and the upcoming high school season.

So, a pretty crazy summer for you. Talk about your decision to commit to Michigan.

I've been going to their camps for years. My whole goal was to get to Michigan and play there. My dad called in March (2011) and they said they wanted me to play for them. When we went to their camp (in July), me and my dad were talking with their coach, Marsha Pankratz. I told them Michigan was the only place I wanted to be. She was excited.

Your brother, Bo, beat you to it. He committed a few weeks before.

That's OK. We have a great relationship. I go to all his football games, he comes to my field hockey games when he can. We're very supportive. I'm so happy for him, and that we'll be there together.

Let's talk about the 2011 season. The Scouts were state runners up (losing to New Trier). Eight seniors graduated, including Kasey Quon, Mary Susan Bro and Katherine Cook. What are the expectations?

I think a state title is the whole goal for this season. We have the most talented team stick-wise in the state. There are a lot of skilled players coming to our team. Our senior class has really good leaders.

Give us some names.

Lauren Yarkony, Katie Skinner. Abby Sirus is her class president and she's a really good player. They are all really strong and will step up to the plate. We also have a group of sophomores that are doing things on the national level. They are skilled and talented players.

We asked Bo what his favorite Michigan collector's item was (boxer shorts). What is yours?

It's a signed hat from Mike Hart (football player from 2004-2008). He personalized it. It's on my dresser at home. It doesn't match my room colors.

Isn't there something you and Bo compete in?

We give each other a hard time about grades.

Who has the higher GPA?

I do.
